WWummmmmmmmm PSSSSHhhhhhhhhhhhh…

Well i finally pulled the trigger and decided to step into the realm of real drifto power in the hopes to stuff up my drift game and to hopefully one day run with the big dogs

My new motor

So monday i’m towing the 240 (the car still runs and drives fin BUT im pulling the fenders and bumper off of it to make it easier for andy to work on it, so f trying to drive it down there that way)
Andy will be cutting out the rusted areas in the engine bay and fender wheels and replacing it with new metal as well as stick welding the engine bay and painting the bay for me. So once i recover from my surgery all i should have to do to get the car running again is to do the wiring, fluids and put the front end back together woot.

I’m stoked and soo excited

Happy Birthday to the Ground!

After arguing with myself for an hour and a half this morning about whether or not I wanted to put my coils on today, I went ahead and just did it. This is still a little high for me, but I need spacers and a skid plate first. And I’m still waiting on Mason-Tech to finish my Great Plates. I’m sitting at 23.25″ ground to fender all the way around with 205/40/17′s on 17″x7.5″ Fat Fives. I’m on Raceland full coilovers with the helper springs removed in the front and the perches and adjusters removed in the rear. So far the only issue I’m having is the exhaust hitting the rear axle beam every once in a while. Just one picture for now. I still have a lot of work ahead of me.

An Update From Me…

It’s been a while since I’ve updated everyone with what I’m doing. Towards the end of the summer, the Jetta started giving me some issues from the static drop. Between bending a tie rod and axle beam and breaking an axle, I decided to put the car back to stock and begin another Honda project. I picked up a 1996 Honda Civic DX hatchback . But the projected ended up being short lived. I’ve been wanting to get a place of my own and having two cars wasn’t helping me reach the smarter goal. I sold the Civic and used some of the money to mod the Jetta again. So here’s a list of what’s going on with the VDub now and some pictures from over the summer time. Credits on the photos to SikofFalln, Potts and tmarsh. Thanks for the awesome work guys!

-Rear Axle Beam – It took a while but I finally got the motivation to fix the rear beam about two months ago. The old beam was bent in by 3/4 inch, causing me major alignment issues. Thanks to Jarrod from DriftSTL who got me a hook up on a new beam for cheap from the dealer. And to Josh/99BlackHatch and Amy/MyFodoSi for the help during the install.

-Raceland Full Coilovers – I’ll be modding these a lot to go super low. I’m ditching both the helper springs and coil springs in the front in favor of a much stiffer Eibach spring. Somewhere in the 600lbs./in. area. The weak spring rates of the last coils made the car rub like crazy. I’ve already deleted the FSB and will be notcing the frame for both the axles and tie rods to prevent damage to them in the future. The rear setup will consist of only the coil spring as the car sits too high in the rear with the pearch installed.

-Mason-Tech Great Plates – These push the rear axle beam back a little to sit the wheel in the center of the wheel well on lowered MK4 cars. If you look at my older pics, you’ll see what I’m talking about and how goofy the wheel looks when it’s pushed towards the front of the car.

-Votex Roof Rack – Another custom job here. Since I don’t really like the way Thule and Yakima basket racks look, I decided to purchase a pair of OEM base carriers and build my own basket. One that will resembule the older wooden racks found on Bettles.

Those are just my main purchases. I also picked up a Euroswitch, HKS SSQV Blow-Off Valve, K&N Air Filter, DDM Tuning 6K HIDs, full black leather interior, and plan on finishing up a small audio install and tint thanks to Chris/N2HIFI. Promise to update more often with my progress. Thanks for reading.

16×8 +20….. not as crazy as I want to go, but I think it will be a good start for figuring out what kind of fitment room I have to work with and a nice match for the 8 16in tires I have to start this season

Well Then….

Looks like we are just being hella slackers on updating this site with any info at all as to what we have all been up too.

So….. i think we need to start getting off our arse’s and get the ball rolling again and start gearing up *GMR* for this years events and meets.

After making some small chit chat with rob last night i think we need to update/freshen up the *GMR* stickers and look .. thinking time for some custom colors and need styles of the decals …. Rob and Josh suggested doing a longer style of sticker like the “toe sucka” stickers where it would read out *GarageMent Racing* or we can do some of the web links if we finally start being more active on the site.

I know that no matter what we will be soon getting shirts and possibly hoodies if people are up for it still …. i really want to do mechanic / dickie shirts but only if more then just myself want one.. im also thinking about having some hats made up also .. just some simple flexfit style hats with the logo on it … nothing too crazy.

Also a little update on my side of things… the prelude is finally heading to erics’s in new mexico thursday, he has a shipping company picking it up for him. Last night rob and i braved the cold and reassembled the front end and put the hood back on finally, i put the interior back together and loaded up all his extra parts into the trunk so it’s ready to ship. Minor detail i have to get the ‘lude from my place to weekends only parking lot so they can load it up there but i think rob and i are going to tow it over there with the 240 … it has a truck motor after all lol.

Also i finally made a new motor dolly so rob and i pulled the d16 off the stand and set it up on the dolly … now i just need to put the flywheel and clutch back on so i can put the tranny on and then the motor should be ready to reinstall into the car FINALLY… i still need to order the fuel setup but atleast it’s a start on getting it back togther.

Thats it for now ill toss some random pictures up later one i get home but till then do work kids…..

Steve said it best…

when he said we had alot going on. Currently ALL my cars are going through some sort of modifications/rebuild or tear down. Currently the coupe’ is down due to oil pump failure on the b16 swap that i purchased from A fellow STLhonda member… apparently he decided that bolts in the oil pump were WWWWAAAAYyyyyy overrated and removed them all prior to selling me the motor and then failing to mention this… Nice right .. Inoright.

SOOOO… we rebuild right ?… sort of, this happened during my period of bad health when i was suffering from Afib aka http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atrial_fibrillation so i was kind of hampered by not being able to do alot of the work that needed to be done to get the car apart and find out what happened to the motor. During this time I had to have alot of help lifting and doing strenuous work and luckily i have some really good friends who came over and helped me turn some wrenches and get the motor pulled and torn down.

We here are some pics from that carnage

Got copper … main bearings shot

ehh well apparently when you run a motor with no oil shit wears out fast.. apparently since there were no bolts in the pump it just sprayed all the oil out of the block on the way home from work, well lucky for my i have a cpl spare blocks laying around and we scavenged a good crank and main bearings from that and then reassembled the motor hoping this would fix the problem. Fast fwd a cpl days and after a short stay in the hospital and a pretty routine medical procedure called synchronized electrical cardioversion i was back to normal and able to get back to wrenching on the cars lol. Well i finially got the coupe’ back together and took it out for a test drive to wash it and to make sure everything was legit.

Quick pic at the car wash .. mainly cause the car looks mean with no hood on it (i see why the cali guys do this alot)

Well… it seems that when things go easy .. usually it’s too good to be true. The quick fix failed miserably, basically after about 20 miles of driving the motor did the same thing .. oil light came on then no power and wanting to die at idle. Basically we did all that work for nothing because the motor still had a issue in it that never got addressed the first time. So we pulled the motor again , sent it to the machine shop and did a full over haul this time. Dale did all the assembly work for me and after 2 weeks waiting for parts and the machine shop i have the motor back and its ready to be reinstalled just need to finish up the wire tuck and battery relocation and the coupe’ will be back up and better then new.

The motor is now pretty built for a stock motor to be honest:
B16 block decked
B16 head decked
Itr pistons on b16 rods
Full supertech valve train with black nitrate valves
arp head studs
stock b16 cams for now
all new gaskets
new acl rod and main bearings
Aebs intake manifold
IM spacer
H22 TB
Megan header (needed something cheap and lots of clearance)
Sk2 cam gears
Act streetlight fly wheel
exedy oem clutch
GSR tranny
blah…
blah…
blah… lolol
